Sustainable management of the Danube and Raab rivers to improve aquatic ecology and reduce flood and drought risks

The SUST_DARA project focuses on the optimization of restoration measures along the Danube in Hungary and Austria in order to improve water and sediment management and at the same time improve the ecological status. SUST_DARA addresses various parameters of river restoration, balancing ecological, engineering and recreational aspects. The main objectives include assessing the impact of construction measures on the sediment budget, generalizing the influence of parameters on restoration measures and adapting strategies to climate change. Activities include modelling, innovative approaches and case studies. The focus of the project is on inter- and transdisciplinary stakeholder involvement, joint monitoring methods and public relations. By integrating scientific findings, technological innovations and social commitment, the project aims to contribute to sustainable river restoration measures.
